David: A Life Meant for Good

When I think about Genesis 50 verse 20, the person that comes to my mind is David. Goliath was a mighty warrior of the Philistines and went to battle with the army of Saul. David went one day to take supplies to his brothers and decided that he would fight Goliath. David had taken five smooth stones from a nearby brook, placed them in his shepherd’s bag, took his sling and went to meet Goliath. When Goliath saw David, he cursed him by his god. David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a Sword and a spear and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defiled." David knew that God was on his side and that he could defeat the giant. David walked up to Goliath, put one stone in his sling and hit the giant in the forehead and he fell to the ground. Then David took Goliath's sword and cut off his head. After this, the men of Israel defeated the Philistine army. David was the second king to rule over Israel and during the spring his men were in a battle while David stayed in Jerusalem and saw Bathsheba the wife of Uriah and had a child by her. One morning, David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by the hand of Uriah. He wrote in the letter saying, “Set Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle and retreat from him, that he may be struck down and die," What David had done displeased the Lord. Then the LORD Sent Nathan to David to tell him his child would die. David pleaded with God for the child, and he fasted and went and laid on the ground all night. The child became ill and died just as God had said. After the death of his first son, came the birth of his second son, Solomon. David was a famous and mighty king as we read in 1 Chronicles 14:17 Then the fame of David went out into all lands, and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations." Other scriptures that teach about David are: 1 Chronicles 18:14 "So David reigned over all Israel and administered judgment and justice to all his people." Luke 2:11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." God had a plan that Jesus would be a descendant of David.
